One of the main things you can do right now is to stay inside and stay safe. If the boredom has kicked in, we’ve compiled 20 things to do at home this weekend that won’t break the bank.
1) Read a book or join an online book club
Rediscover the pile of books you’ve been meaning to read for a while and check out an online book club you can join.
2) Host a virtual pub quiz
If you haven’t done this already, now’s the time! Move the group chat up a level and have a virtual gathering. Agree a time, make some snacks and have a drink together. Voila! The vibe of hanging-out at your local in the comfort of your own space. Wearing iets frans… joggers, obvs.
3) Start a new exercise/activity
Even if it’s only for 15 minutes a day, try to get moving inside. From dancing to yoga, there’s plenty of free tutorials on YouTube to enjoy.
4) Play a board game
Fill your day with some much needed nostalgia and play a throwback board game. No arguments!
5) Have a chat
Hopefully you’ve been doing more of this in the last couple of weeks. If not, then what are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and have a long chat with your friends or family. It feels so good to catch up – even if there’s not much to catch up on at the moment!
6) Get creative
Try out a new creative skill. Get painting, give embroidery a go or look through your old clothes to see if there’s anything new you can fashion with your sewing machine. Make DIY wedding decorations like origami paper hearts or DIY pom moms from tissue paper. If any of this can help towards your own or a friends wedding then that’s a huge bonus!
7) Create playlists
Remember your old favourite tunes you haven’t heard in years? Compile playlists for all your different moods and vibes.
8) Get photo’s ordered online
We live in such a digital era, we forget to print off our treasured memories and physically look at them. With free photo apps where you only have to pay for delivery, get printing! Getting all the photos through the post is sure to brighten your day. You could even treat yourself to a new photo album or scrapbook.
9) Create a gorgeous office desk space
Increase productivity and create a space solely for your work. Fill your area with inspirational posters, artwork and plants and try to keep away from distractions.
10) Try a home beauty treatment
This is the perfect time to give yourself a bit of TLC. Spend the day looking after your body and giving it a homemade treatment. We love Liz Earl’s inexpensive body scrub recipe.
11) Have a relaxing bubble bath
Create a zen den by lighting candles and filling up your bath with your favourite oils and bubbles. It’s time to switch-off, relax and release any unwanted stress.
12) Clear out your wardrobe
Yes, the dreaded wardrobe. Sort all of your clothes into piles – keep, sell, donate and give to friends + family.
13) Listen to a podcast
This is the perfect time to sit back with a cuppa and enjoy a podcast. We recommend RocknRoll Bride’s new podcast, a great listen!
14) Gardening
No matter how big or small, transform your outside space or make the most out of the benefits that come with having plants in your home.
15) Bake
Try a new recipe online or try making your favourite cake or desert.
16) Phone free zone
Try to put down your phone and laptop once a day for at-least an hour to unwind and disconnect. Taking time out for yourself at the moment is really important for your health. Read our post on how to de-stress at this uncertain time.
17) Disney movies
What was your favourite Disney film when you were little? Sit back and enjoy your favourite movie with some popcorn and a glass of wine.
18) Spring clean
Is there anything more satisfying than having a total spring clean?
19) Watch an online theatre production
National Theatre Live productions will soon be available to watch for free on YouTube. Created in the days since theatres across the UK have closed down to fight the spread of coronavirus, National Theatre at Home will stream productions into audience’s homes, in addition to making the theatre’s education collection available remotely while schools are closed. Perfect!
20) Complete a free course
Learn a new skill or language with Open University’s free courses. Produced by The Open University, a world leader in open and distance learning, all OpenLearn courses are free to study. They offer nearly 1000 free courses across 8 different subject areas. These courses are available to start right away.
Remember, try not to panic, things will work out and get better in time. Pause. Breath. Let’s stay safe, act with kindness and stay connected.
