No matter if you are accentuating your eyes or your lips, make sure your skin looks perfect, as flawless skin completes any look.
Step 1
Give yourself a smooth base to work with; cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin to make sure it is soft and free of any dirt. Wait at least 10 minutes after moisturising before you begin to do anymore of your make-up, otherwise you will end up with shiny, greasy looking skin.
Step 2
Next dot some foundation on your nose, chin, forehead and both cheeks. Using a damp cosmetic sponge blend the foundation into your skin. Make sure you pay attention to your jaw and hairlines to avoid any orange streaks. Use the sponge on your neck too, as this will make sure that there is no sudden colour change between your neck and face.
We recommend a matte foundation, such as Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse which is affordable and east to apply too.
Step 3
Next dab a small amount of concealer on the skin under your eyes. Apply some to the inner corner of your eyes (when the light reflects on the concealer your eyes will look bigger), and some under the dark areas under your eyes. Gently blend the concealer using a brush, but make sure are light with your brush and don’t rub the concealer in too much. Apply a small amount in the same way on any other visible blemishes, such as red marks.
Step 4
Gently apply either a loose or pressed powder onto your foundation in order to keep any shine away. This is what will make your skin look picture perfect all day. Some powders are suitable for any skin tone, such as Ruby & Millie’s Loose Powder – simply apply with a powder brush.
Step 5
Finally add some colour to your skin with some blusher. For a subtle look, smile to find the apples of your cheeks and then lightly apply a small amount of blusher there. Make sure you apply the blusher lightly to avoid going too over the top (nobody wants to look like a clown on their big day!)
Tips and Tricks
When using brushes to apply any type of powder, make sure you blow any excess powder in order to avoid applying too much.
Make sure you use the right shade of blusher. There are a few ways to find the right colour. You blusher can match the colour of cheeks when flushed (For example, when you blush, have done a lot of exercise or have been in the cold). You can also match your blusher to your natural lip colour. Generally fair girls tend to suit rose coloured blushers, while olive skinned girls suit peachy tones. If you have dark skin then try apricot or red shades of blush.
Do your make up in a very well lit room. This will be the closet you can get to natural sunlight when indoors, so you can make sure that your make up is blended in well enough to look perfect in any lighting condition.
Use good quality brushes when applying your make up – using a decent brush can make even the cheapest product look good. Keep your brushes in a good condition by washing them with shampoo regularly. It’s sometimes cheaper, and easier, to buy a brush set such as this brush set available from Marks and Spencers.
