There are three key features that you need to consider when choosing the colour of your make up – your eye colour, hair colour and skin tone.

If you’ve decided to accentuate your eyes, then you need to pick eye shadow colours which complement your eye colour. Here’s a quick guide to help you find out what colour is best for you.

If you want to make brown eyes ‘pop’, then use eye shadows that contrast with the colour of your eyes. Vibrant purples, blues and greens can make brown eyes look incredibly striking. Less vibrant shades of the same colours can also make brown eyes look beautiful in a more subtle way.

However, if you want to keep your eye-make up simple and natural then try to use brown and gold eye shadows which will complement your eye colour. Champagne, peach, light pink and mushroom all look gorgeous on brown eyes and suit most skin tones.

Orange eye shadows such as peach, coral and bronze are great for making blue eyes really stand out as they create an incredible contrast.

Dark shades of blue can make blue eyes look brighter and more vibrant, while tea can make eyes appear greener. Blonde haired girls should try violet and lavender in order to create a soft, yet dramatic look.

Those who want to keep their eye make up simple should opt for grey, khaki, chocolate brown or caramel eye shadows.

If you have hazel eyes then you are lucky and can wear most colours.
To draw attention to the rich, golden tones in your eyes then use yellow/gold tones, golds can look beautiful on hazel eyes.
Make hazel eyes pop with contrasting purples, such as lilac, violet or plum – perfect if you have a pink or purple theme to your big day.

Or, if you want to create a natural look try to use browns, romantic pinks and beiges on your eyelids to make the colour stand out.

Remember, to make eyes look bigger apply darker shades to the corners of the outer eye.

Use various shades of brown to make the green of your eyes really stand out. Chocolate brown is a particular favourite for accentuating gorgeous green eyes. For a more striking look then use a vibrant electric blue eye shadow. To create a more natural look, green eyed brides should try soft purples.

However, make sure you stay away from bright pinks, as pink eye shadow can make your eyes appear to be smaller and less vibrant.

As with hazel eyes, brides with grey eyes can suit many different shades of eye shadow as grey eyes tend to have flickers of other colours, such as blue and green.

If you have either blue-grey or green-grey eyes then try various shades of orange, such as peach, salmon, bronze or copper to exaggerate the green or blue qualities of your eyes. Grey is also a great colour to use – meaning that grey-eyed girls can look gorgeous with smokey eyes. A dark grey can lighten the colour of your eyes, whilst a light grey can make eyes appear darker.

However, try to avoid using pink/red eye shadows and make sure that any shades of grey that you use is not too close to your eye colour.

Most people try to accentuate their best, or favourite feature on normal days, and your wedding day should be no different. Try to either accentuate your eyes or your lips, never both!
