If you’re keeping up-to-date with trends then you’ll know that vintage is big news these days. So if you are going for a 1920’s or 1950’s inspired look without the quirkiness of a retro wedding, then a vintage wedding is the way to go.
The Flowers
When it comes to a vintage wedding, dusty pinks and whites are the perfect colours to creating a vintage look. Luckily, there are plenty of flowers that fit in with that colour scheme. Roses are perfect for vintage weddings-but we don’t mean your typical red roses. David Austin Roses and Old Dutch Roses look gorgeous in dusty pinks, while Sweet Avalanche Roses and Illusion Roses can add some girliness to your bouquet. Amnesia Roses are perfect if you want to add some darker colours into your colour scheme, such as faded purples. White Vendella Roses are also perfect for vintage weddings, especially if you are trying to achieve a more elegant look. Roses can work perfectly well on their own, but if you want to add some more, smaller flowers then try some dusty pink or white Hydrangeas.
The Cake
Keep your cake simple and elegant, but with a little added something. Vintage style is all about antique effects and small embellishments, so why not have small gold leaves on your cake? Or perhaps some small iced flowers for a romantic touch.
Arrive in Style
If you’re bringing yourself back to the 1950’s for your big day, then why not travel like someone from the 1950’s too! Ditch the fancy, modern car and use a vintage car such as a 1950’s Austin Princess, or a classic Ford.
Look The Part
Tea-length dresses are also perfect for achieving the vintage look. By choosing to wear a tea-length dress, you’re able to wear more traditional dress shapes, such as ball gowns or A-line gowns, as the shorter length will give your dress the vintage vibe. As with all things vintage, make sure you pay attention to the small details on your dress-pearl beading or lace embellishments are ideal on vintage dresses, so do make sure that your dress does have some detailing.
The Shoes
Finding the right shoes is crucial if you’re wearing a shorter dress, but it is just as important if you wear a full length gown. The key to vintage shoes is making sure that they have some kind of embellishment. Beads, pearls and crystals can all make a pair of shoes look instantly vintage, and opting for a pair of shoes with a smaller heel, rather than a stiletto, will also make your shoes look vintage.
Hair and Make-up
Vintage hair needs to be elegant and chic, like the ladies of the 1920’s and 1950’s, so try to create a classic hair-do like Audrey Hepburn’s hair in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This hairstyle is great for accessorizing, just by adding in a small pearl hairclip or a gorgeous tiara.
Red lips can look amazing on a vintage bride, so be bold and give the red lips tick a go. Or if you aren’t a big fan of lipstick, give feline eyes a go, with some finely lined eyelids.
